I spend a lot of time thinking and writing in a journal with frequent meta-observations about writing, my life, not living it, etc.
And an idea that popped up was that I need an Outside Magnet. I need a mental "magnet" placed outside my introspective mind; one that is far enough away and strong enough to pull me away from... myself. A magnet of pure intention and living in the moment and also intentionally moving towards something outward, not inward.
I don't want to look outside myself - I'm not talking about external inspiration or validation! I mean that there is a part of my mind that creates things, is curious, knows at some level what it likes and dislikes, wants to make a quiet small thing in the world. It's not (I'm not) currently focused on making a big splash or difference in the world.
Right now, I have a firm belief that the world needs more art and the art does not need to be big or audacious; it just needs to connect us somehow. Even 1-2 people; I don't care. I just want my being to be doing something as art. Not BIG ART with galleries and shows and marketing budgets. I mean something human and maybe wacky or weird or profound or simple. Simple is often the best.
So yeah... I need a mental magnet that pulls me outside all this inner racket. Anyone know how to build one?
